Atlanta Dog Bite Attorney
Georgia Dog Bite Attorneys Bruce Millar and Steve Mixon are dog owners ourselves. However, as Georgia lawyers, we have helped dozens of dog bite and dog attack victims. We thoroughly understand the issues and the laws about dogs:
How lawyers Millar & Mixon can help you:
We may be able to recover payments from the home-owner's insurance company of the dog owner. You may be entitled to recover payment of your medical bills, payments for scars and scar removal surgery, payments for mental and physical trauma, and lost wages. In Georgia, home owners (and their home-owner's insurance companies) are not "always" responsible if you are bitten by a dog. Insurance companies know this and may unfairly deny your claim. Insurance companies often make unreasonable excuses for dangerous dog owners and fight dog-bite cases - claiming that you (the victim) provoked the dog, or that the dog owner had "no idea" the dog was dangerous. Many dangerous dogs have a bite history that needs to be investigated. Many cities and counties have leash laws, fencing laws, and other codes that are violated by careless dog owners
Facts about dog bites and dog attack cases:
Each year in the U.S. around 5 million people are bitten by dogs. Nearly 2% of our population is bitten or attacked by a dog each year. About 800,000 of these dog bite and dog attack victims require medical attention. Each year approximately 15-20 people die from dog attack injuries.
Here are some things to keep in mind about strange or potentially dangerous dogs:
If you are not familiar with the dog, keep a safe distance. Dogs commonly are protective of their space. If you walk into his territory, you could be bitten. Do not touch a new dog before it has warmed up to you. A dog may want to smell you or slowly look you over. Allow a dog some time to do this before you try to touch it. A nervous or territorial dog may bite you out of self-defense. Children should be gentle. We see many dog bite cases involving young children because they want to jump-in and play rough with the dog. Rough play can cause a dog to become very excited and confused. The dog may bite you or your child during its excitement and confusion. Do not approach or play with a strange dog that is sleeping, eating, chewing on a bone or taking care of puppies. The dog may become frightened, territorial, or protective, and you or your child could be bitten. Never leave children alone with a strange dog.
